Important

This article provides general education. Seek a qualified health professional for personal diagnosis or treatment, and use local emergency services for urgent danger.

Consent is a conversation

Valid consent means understanding the proposed procedure, realistic benefits, uncertainty, risks, alternatives and cost before freely agreeing. A signature does not replace time to ask questions.

Consent is specific and ongoing. You may decline a body site, request a chaperone, pause the procedure or withdraw permission without being shamed.

Your information belongs in safe hands

Health history, photos, notes and contact details should only be accessed for legitimate care and operations. Ask who can see them, how long they are kept and how corrections or deletion requests are handled.

Treatment consent is not consent for marketing. Before-and-after images require separate, explicit permission that can be refused without affecting care.
