Single use means one client, one procedure
Blades and other skin-cutting items should be sterile, single use and discarded immediately into a sharps container. Gloves are also changed between clients and when contaminated.
Packaging should be intact and opened at the point of care. Washing or wiping a single-use item does not make reuse acceptable.
Reusable needs a system
Reusable cups must move from dirty collection through cleaning and the correct level of disinfection or sterilization, then protected storage. The exact method depends on material and exposure risk.
A center should have written procedures, trained staff, appropriate products and records. Clients can reasonably ask how this process is verified.
